A JORDANIAN man has murdered his sister for allegedly leaving home without permission, a security official said today.
"The crime took place in the (southern) province of Aqaba four days ago. The man claimed that he killed his sister to cleanse his family's honour," the official said.
The official refused to elaborate "because the authorities are still investigating the killing".
In Jordan, between 15 and 20 women are murdered annually in the name of "honour".
Last year 17 such killings were recorded.
Perpetrators get reduced sentences as parliament has refused to reform the penal code to ensure harsher sentences, despite campaigns by local and international human rights activists.
