POLICE fear an attacker who staged a brazen abduction attempt on a mother of two in a Melbourne shopping centre car park in broad daylight may strike again.
A young man jumped into the back of the woman's car after she emerged from the Broadmeadows Shopping Centre on Tuesday.
He told her to drive out of the car park, but the 35-year-old woman got out of the vehicle and began screaming, scaring him away.
Detective Sergeant Pat Allen said CCTV image from the shopping centre provided a clear image of the attacker following the woman to her car.
"When she got out of the car he grabbed her by the wrists and attempted to force her back into the car,'' Det Sgt Allen said.
But her screams had attracted the attention of other shoppers and the man fled.
"We're concerned that this was a brazen attack carried out in a busy car park in the middle of the afternoon,'' Det Sgt Allen said.
"And we're also concerned that he has targeted the lone female victim.
"She was distraught and in shock, but thankfully she is recovering well.''
The offender was described as aged between 15 and 21 and wearing a blue jumper with USA emblazoned on it.
Det Sgt Allen said anyone who knew the man should contact Crimestoppers and urge him to give himself up.
