A 34-year-old former high school teacher from a small town in Western Australia's south has been sentenced to seven-and-a-half years in jail for having sex with two girls under his care.
District Court Judge Mary Ann Yates today said Brett Rodney Daley had caused life-long trauma and stress to his victims.
Daley was a teacher at the town's school, a soccer coach, a mentor and counsellor to many students and was looked up to by many in the community, the court heard.
Judge Yates said that although the sexual acts which occurred in 2006 were consensual, the girls, one aged 15 and the other 16, did not have the emotional maturity to handle their experiences.
Daley's partner, 21-year-old Natasha Charmaine Krispyn, the mother of their one-year-old child, received a suspended sentence for taking part in one of the sexual acts.
Daley will be eligible for parole in five-and-a-half years.
