A former butler to Queen Elizabeth II and the late Queen Mother has been jailed for a minimum of six years for sexual offences against young boys, one of whom he took to a royal tea party.
Paul Kidd, 55, who earned money by giving speeches about his royal work, was caught when one of his victims read a newspaper interview he gave on last year's 10th anniversary of Princess Diana's death and called police.
Kidd pleaded guilty to nine counts of indecent assault, six counts of sexual activity with a child and one count of causing or inciting a child to engage in sexual activity.
He also admitted 11 counts of making indecent images of a child and two counts of possessing indecent images of children.
Kidd took one of his victims to tea with the Queen Mother at her Clarence House residence in central London, prosecutors at Manchester Minshull Street Crown Court said.
Many of the images that police found were encrypted in computer files with the password "Pickles" - allegedly a reference to a corgi dog owned by the royal family.
The offences were committed intermittently in the 1970s and 1980s and in 2005 to 2008. Kidd was a butler for the Queen from 1977 and senior footman to the Queen Mother from 1979 to 1984.
Judge Mushtaq Khokhar on Monday told Kidd his victims were "under your spell - they would do anything you asked them to do".
He gave him an indeterminate sentence, saying he should stay in prison for at least six years before he could be considered for parole.
