Queensland Premier Anna Bligh says the future of a Caloundra caravan park had been put in the "too hard" basket by her predecessor.

Ms Bligh visited the Tripcony-Hibiscus Caravan Park yesterday to announce a new 30-year lease for the site.

It had been under threat of closure as the valuable Government-owned waterfront land was being considered for development or parkland.

She admits the decision is a relief for the park's 85 elderly permanent residents.

"Some of them have called it home for more than 30 years, so I'm glad that we've taken the uncertainty out of their lives," she said.

"It's also a great outcome for those people that visit Caloundra, whether they come to this park or not, because this has been a missing link in the boardwalk that comes along the front of this beautiful waterway.

"This is now an opportunity for us to give an easement to the council and get that boardwalk fixed."

Sunshine Coast Regional Council Mayor Bob Abbot has applauded the Government's decision.

"[It is a] good result for affordable housing, a good result for the people of Caloundra and certainly a great result for the people who live in and use the park," he said.

"[It is] absolutely fabulous all round and I congratulate the Premier on the efforts."
