I'm going to try to explain a trend I'm noticing more of lately: the 'End Around'.
Basically what's happening is more and more fathers are coming to the realization that they cannot win in a custody engagement in family courts, and are electing to not throw good money after bad in trying.
Think about it for a moment - you've just spent $40,000.00 on attorneys, expert witnesses, child psychologists, etc... to win your case that youngling is truly better off without you. You've walked out of court with child in tow and a piece of paper that says "she gets to live with me now".
2 days later Mistuh Pohleese is at the door with a shiny new set of bracelets because the ex-wife has alleged you ___________ (insert heinous transgression against the Sanctity of childhood) and you're back in jail, then back in court, then back in debt.
So you fight it and win again (hey, you're lucky).
The following Monday am along with the newspaper and your coffee here's comes the lawdogs again with the shiny bracelets and the game begins anew.
It's called False Accusations and/or Sexual Allegations In Divorce.
And until such schemes are a) rendered illegal and b) enforced... it's pointless to continue to subisdize the attorneys greens fees at the local golf course where he chats amicably with the Judge who's watching you spin through the system like a revolving door.
So I ask you: WHY do you persist in spending your money on lawyers when that same money can be deposited in an account for the childs future when it counts?
Is there a point in spending tens or hundreds of thousands of dollars to drag you, your child, and everybody else through the merry go round of corrupt courts when you cannot hope to win the war?
Sure, you might gain momentary victory in a battle here or there if you're well off enough to finance the array of legal representation and associated retainees to argue every petty nuance of the law (in a court where the law is invented as they go along).
But as long as she can pick up the phone and lodge another False Accusation...
YOU CAN'T WIN!
So stop trying.
Put that money in a college fund account for the child to have to build a life with when they attain the magical age of legal majority and are looking to build a life for themself away from the witch who will (with the fullest endorsement of the aforementioned corrupt courts) bleed you dry until you not only cannot afford to finance lawyers... but can't even afford the child support and you end up in jail or living underground off the grid.
And for whatever merit you care to assign to it, I've been talking (via email etc) with a number of children of such Jousts... and to a one (ie ALL of them) they thoroughly despise the mother who used them as a pawn in her vendetta against their fathers.
There kids are going to be our best soldiers and are our hope for the future when the blatant father hating games are realized and called to account for system that condones these hateful divorces for profit.
A question I'll put to you: your choices for your children are:
1) a tolerable childhood with a scheming manipulating ex-wife or
2) a ruinous childhood being dragged repeatedly through the quagmire of social services and courts as you play the game of Acrimony and let your ex-wife and her pirahna lawyers drag you through the courts time and again.
Who gains what, except the lawyers, the judges and the court appointed cronies who are going to tell the coruts exactly what the courtsd want to hear to keep the appointments coming (along with that reliable gov't check for being court appointed cronies) as you wither away to a shell of the man you once were and ultimately ill and unable to be a productive contribution to your childrens reality as they grow into adulthood???
Whatever age they are when you divorced, I quite assure you your children will be older than 18 for a hell of a lot longer than they have left to get there.
Let's stop financing the lawyers who are enabling the games to persist, and start financing our childrens college educations so they can become lawyers themselves and put an end to the destruction of our families.
