A PEDOPHILE who was shot dead by his sex-slave stepdaughter threatened to kill her entire family if she told anyone of her four years of torture, her grandmother says.
Murder charges against the girl were dropped in the Supreme Court on Friday after Director of Public Prosecutions Jeremy Rapke, QC, said it was neither just nor in the public interest to go ahead with a case destined to fail.
The girl had pleaded not guilty to murder after it was alleged she shot her stepfather in the back of the head and dismembered his body in March last year.
The grandmother, who is the parent of the girl's natural father, said she was shocked and distressed by her precious granddaughter's horrendous ordeal, but relieved charges against her had been dropped.
"He told her he would kill her mother, her three brothers, her and then turn the gun on himself if she told anyone about what he was doing to her," the grandmother said.
"That's how he controlled her, with the gun."
The grandmother said the girl's mother was unaware of the abuse, adding she was working at two jobs while the abuse was occurring.
"She would work at a shop between 9am and 3pm before going to a shift at a factory until midnight," the grandmother said.
"It was a big surprise to her mother and they were living in the same house. Unreal."
The grandmother said her son was devastated for his daughter.
"There's nobody like your daughter," she said.
"It will take him a long time to deal with this."
The grandmother also claimed the girl's cruel stepfather:
FORCED the girl to wear "old lady's clothes instead of something a teenager would wear".
WOULD take the girl in one car to a party, while her mother and three stepbrothers went in a separate car, even though they had a vehicle big enough to carry the entire group.
WOULD wait out the front for the girl to make sure she did not go home with any other boys if she went to a disco.
A preliminary hearing was told the stepfather had raped her repeatedly for four years, beginning when she was aged 14.
He had also taken more than 9000 explicit images of the abuse.
The hearing heard that on the day the girl killed her stepfather he had threatened her with a shotgun if she did not perform oral sex.
When he was zipping up his pants she grabbed the gun and shot him in the back of the head before dismembering his body and burying it in several shallow graves.
The grandmother said the girl's school could have prevented the horrible event if it had reported concerns raised about abuse.
The family was not at its central Victoria home yesterday.
It is understood the girl's stepbrothers are receiving counselling.
The girl was living with her boyfriend, her grandmother said.
"She's a pretty level-headed girl, but I don't know how she will get over it," she said.
