Police Arrests Turn Violent At Anti-Lockdown Protest
Victoria began its sixth COVID-19 pandemic lockdown with just four hours notice on Thursday, August 5th, 2021. A pre-planned protest to another lockdown was called for 7 pm in the Melbourne CBD. The lockdown started at 8 pm. Police began arresting protesters before the 8 pm deadline, in part, due to the Chief Health Officer’s directive ( in place before the 8 pm deadline ) to prohibit groups of ten or more people coming together for a common purpose and/or the disregarding of the CHO directive to wear face masks ( although many of the protesters claimed medical exemptions ). A total of fifteen people were arrested during the protest, including the two depicted in this video.
