What We Believe, Part 4: Natural Law
Whatever Happened to Justice Sample Chapter - Richard Maybury
"In a visit to a local high school, I examined six history and civics textbooks. Only three made any mention of Common Law, and none devoted more than four paragraphs to it. Together they gave it no more than one full page out of a total of 3,851 pages. This for a subject that is very likely the most important we could ever study.
"I also checked two law textbooks and they were no better. They mentioned that it's gone now so it's not important, forget it."
—p.216
Do all you have agreed to do.
Do not encroach on other persons or their property.
"An economic system is the result of its legal system. All EWR analysis begins with the two fundamental principles of the old English Common Law. These two rules can be expressed in 17 words: do all you have agreed to do and, do not encroach on other persons or their property. The first rule is the basis of contract law, and the second, the basis of tort law and some criminal law."... Richard Maybury
From the January 2006 Early Warning Report (EWR)
Major changes in your investment portfolio come mostly from changes in the economy, and major changes in the economy come from politics. To know how our investments will behave, we must know how governments will behave.
An economic system is the result of its legal system. All EWR analysis begins with the two fundamental principles of the old English Common Law. These two rules can be expressed in 17 words: do all you have agreed to do and, do not encroach on other persons or their property.
The first rule is the basis of contract law, and the second, the basis of tort law and some criminal law.
These are the two laws taught by all religions. This is why they were the basis of Common Law — the law common to all.
Political power is the privilege of violating these laws. (please see Mr. Maybury's video on power, here) This is why it corrupts.
Travel around the world. Where you find these laws most closely obeyed, both by the people and the governments, you will find the most liberty, prosperity and peace. This is explained in my “Uncle Eric” book Whatever Happened To Justice? Where the two laws are not widely obeyed, the only options are tyranny or chaos. This is Chaostan’s permanent condition, because that vast area never developed legal systems based on the two laws.
EWR makes a leap of faith. We believe that whenever the 17 words are violated, there will be trouble. If this premise is correct, then we have some ability to see the future, and invest accordingly to earn profits.
In planning each EWR, we begin with the question, where are governments violating these laws? After identifying a violation, we try to foresee the kind of trouble that will ensue. If we are right about the nature of the trouble, then resulting changes in flows of money are usually easy to anticipate and profit from. Remember, encroachment makes trouble, and trouble changes flows of money.
