Magistrate Carmen Randazzo has been stood down pending investigations by police into an alleged speeding ticket irregularity.
In a statement released today, Chief Magistrate Ian Gray said he had referred the matter to police and set up a review to be conducted independently of the Magistrates' Court.
"The Magistrate will not be hearing cases while these investigations art taking place," Chief Magistrate Grey said.
"I take the matters raised concerning Magistrate Carmen Randazzo very seriously.''
"Magistrates and other judicial officers have a duty to maintain a high standard of conduct. I have determined that it is appropriate to take two courses of action in this matter.
"I have referred these claims to Victoria Police for their review to ensure that no laws have been broken.
Both Premier John Brumby and Attorney-General Rob Hulls have asked for a report into an alleged irregularity relating to one of nine speeding tickets issued to Magistrate Randazzo within several weeks.
The Age reported that Ms Radazzo allegedly informed the Department of Justice that a person called Antonino Randazzo was driving her car at the time of her offences.
The explanation is believed to have been queried last year by a departmental officer, who raised the possibility that Mr Randazzo was overseas at the time of the driving offence.
