Mr Hibbert unfurled banners from the M25 gantry

A campaigner who spent hours on an M25 gantry dressed as Batman - causing lengthy traffic queues - has been released on bail, police said.

Fathers' rights activist Geoffrey Hibbert, 48, from Farnborough in Hampshire, spent seven hours on the gantry near Heathrow Airport on Friday.

Police arrested him as he came down at about 1600 BST on suspicion of causing a danger to road users.

Mr Hibbert was not charged but must return to a police station next month.

'Right to protest'

The Fathers 4 Justice campaigner began his protest shortly after 0800 BST on Friday.

At the time he said: "I'm doing this for my daughter."

The protest created traffic queues of up to 19km (12 miles) on the M25 and 32km (20 miles) on the M4.

But police said despite the disruption, Mr Hibbert had the right to protest peacefully.

He was held on suspicion of causing a danger to road users and putting items on or over the road, after unfurling protest banners from the gantry.

Mr Hibbert was released without charge on Friday night and bailed to return to a west London police station next month.
